We have with pure love and affection abbreviated JivanamAsteya.org as "JIYA" ('जिया ') (JY ah); (GEE yah). First two letter 'JI' is prefix in JIvanam and Last two letter 'YA' suffix In asteYA. The Meaning of JIYA is also Relative to our Vision, close to our heart and represent the true nature of our Organization that is "Sweet, Caring & Loving Piece Of Heart"

जीवानाम् (JIVANAMA) (JIYA Given as Abbreviated name) Refers “of the living entities” or precisely “Living Being” That also includes Animals, Plants, Micro-lives, Human Life and etc. The purpose of the word serves taking consideration of the existence of all living being and then to evolve belief of equal life spirit, protection, love, compassion, help, support and understanding. The word takes SOUL into consideration and it also refers not to be a selfish, greedy, wrongdoers. Somehow it convey meaning and purpose of the protection and green growth of UNIVERSE, we live in. This word frequently used in Jainism and Buddhism referring to subject such as non-violence, welfare, compassion, non materialism, truthfulness (SATYA) and etc.

“अस्तेय”(ASTEYA) is a Sanskrit word meaning "avoidance of stealing" or "non-stealing". In Jainism, it is one of the five vows that all sravakas and shravikas as well as sadhus and sadhvis must take. The concept of "Asteya" is also a principal part of Hinduism, forming one of the core principles that all human beings should try to abide by. Traditionally it is one among the 10 Yamas and in Yogasutra it is one among the 5 Yamas or disciplines. The concept is frequently confused as being an equivalent of the Biblical commandment "Thou shall not steal" although in principle it means more than that. Asteya refers to not stealing, not coveting, nor hoarding, as well as not obstructing other people's desires in life. Swami Jyotirmanda of Miami's Yoga Ashram frequently states that "all the wealth of the world will be drawn to one who has mastered the practice and discipline of Asteya." This is analogous to the Christian (Biblical) saying, "The meek shall inherit the world."

Meaning(s)

  1. Non-stealing.
  2. The fourth of the yamas of raja yoga.

Additional Explanation(s)

The main meaning of asteya is mostly self-explanatory, but it is also important to remember the idea of being content with the things that come to you by honest means. By constantly dwelling on things other people have and you don't have, after awhile the thought of taking something that doesn't belong to you becomes more acceptable to the mind, which can in turn lead to actual theft. As for all things, self-analysis will be necessary to catch the subtle lower tendencies of our mind.

Asteya is non-stealing. This one is pretty self-explanatory. However, it is good to bear in mind that there are many subtle ways to appropriate what does not belong to us. As for the other yamas, much self-analysis will be necessary to catch the subtle lower tendencies of our mind.

Asteya also includes the concept that you should try to be content with what comes to you by honest means. If you are always dwelling on things other people have and you don't have, eventually the thought of taking something that doesn't belong to you becomes more acceptable to the mind, which can in turn lead to actual theft. When you eventually convince yourself that someone else "has so much and won't miss this if I take it", you are giving yourself permission to steal. This method can reduce feelings of guilt in the short run, but in the long run is still a violation of this yama.

Most people aren't aware of it, but the idea of hoarding is another aspect to asteya. The idea is that you are keeping more than what you need for yourself instead of sharing or giving things away that you no longer need. Hoarding applies to many things such as food (eating too much), money, and possessions. Of course one should always keep what is reasonable and necessary to provide for one's self and family members, but a thoughtful analysis should be made as to what is actually necessary to keep, and what one is keeping because of various attachments.

In yoga we are taught that when we no longer desire something it will come to us by itself. This is also the case for asteya. Since the root cause of taking what doesn't belong to you is desire, when you give up desire for things, all sorts of wealth will come to you by itself. To master this yama we should try to curb our desires little by little through the regular practice of yoga, and eventually the mind and our actions will come more under our control.

Karmaphalehtur bhurma te sangostvakarmani.

MEANING
You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action। Never consider yourself the cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty.

Often, when a pure, sincere believer travels among an urban setting, his believes are ridiculed by materialist people, who believe that one must have a desire for the fruits of action to achieve something.
